Horseshoe Bowl

This morning we woke up to the Big Boys sitting outside playing UNO! Why can't every morning be like this?!

Today we decided to take the boys up high to hike – as in the top of the ski mountain. Tim and I attempted this hike several years ago when Kaden was 2 and Jack was a baby and we didn’t make it very far. We were carrying both boys and we weren’t in very good shape. It was difficult to say the least.  This time we were in better shape and it was a lot of fun! We rode the lift to the beginning of the Horseshoe loop. We hiked it and decided to keep going at the turn around point. Eventually, the trail ended or we lost it. So we decided to see how much higher we could go. We hiked as far as we could straight up the mountain…maybe 400 feet ….before we gave up and headed back. Anyway, the boys were excited to be up in the Horseshoe Bowl. I hope hiking is the only way they are up there for several years…I’m not ready for them to be skiing up there!

My FAVORITE picture of my FAB FOUR...so far.

Hudson trying to sit big boy style

It is so nice to finally have a child who can take some pictures - Tim and I can actually have some of us!
The boys were so excited to go back to the painting place and pick up their finished creations.  Now we just have to get them home in one piece!

Rainy Monday

It was a perfect day in the mountains! After breakfast we headed out to feed the chipmunks at "Saphire Point". There were a ton of people there but we still managed to find some hungry chipmunks.  Kaden would wait patiently and they would eat out of his hand.  Jack and Kyler's technique wasn't quite as effective; they would chase them and then throw the food at them.

Then we decided to hike "The Peaks". It starts where we left off with yesterdays hike and is one we haven't ever tried. We LOVED it! We hiked about 3 1/2 miles round trip.  At the point we decided to turn around the boys argued we should try to keep going to the end...but Tim and I decided 8 miles might be a little far and it looked like it might rain.

Kaden helping Kyler up. By the time we were done he had fallen so many times he had blood running down both legs. He was such a tough guy!
Hudson loves hiking!

After our hike we decided to try one of our favorite pizza places the pizza parlor. Once, we got there we found it was now Xtreme Pizza.  It was still yummy!

While we were eating pizza it started raining. Oh, is there anything better then an afternoon rain in the mountains?! We headed back to the condo. Hudson and I took a nap and the bigger boys  went swimming. Yes, swimming in the rain!

I decided we should try something new so we headed downtown to "Paint Aim Fire".  To do some painting. I wasn't sure how it would go but the boys really enjoyed it and painted a lot longer then I thought they would. It was so nice to get up and leave the mess!

Yes, it was still raining but we headed down the street to the cookie shop to pick out cookies for after dinner. It was probably the most heavenly smelling place ever!
Cookie Shop...Oh so many choices!

We picked up some wine & called the shuttle. We got home,  ate dinner & of course our cookies!

Delicious!

We had just enough time before bedtime for  a game of UNO (Kyler won)! Oh, how I LOVE my boys in p.j.'s, relaxing in front of a fire, & rainy days in the mountains!

Happy Hikers

Some people have asked why we always go back to Breckenridge…well today is one of those reasons. It took us a couple of years to figure out the trail system here and now that we know it…it just is easy to come back. Sure we have other places we want to visit but at the stage our kids are in…we need to keep things easy.

We always start off the first day on the same hike. It is fairly easy with lots to see, we can get on it right out of our condo, and it can be any length we want. It crosses the gondola several times so when we get tired we can just jump on it and ride back “home”.  It is a great trail to get acclimated. The Boys did great! We hiked from town, around Cucumber Gulch, to the base of peak 7.

Resting

Looking out over Cucumber Gulch
No complaints from this tired little hiker!

After our hike the boys swam and then we had dinner in the condo before we headed downtown for ice cream!

Look What we Found!

I also visited my favorite store…EVER. Magical Scraps. I look forward to visiting this little shop EVERYTIME we visit Breckenridge. It just makes me happy! It sells the cutest stuff – most of it stuff they make and they are always busy sewing when you walk in.  I love it because I wish I could find all the cute fabrics they do and I wish I had the time to make everything I have in my mind. I always leave with more ideas!
