Full Term

Today marks 37 weeks - so the baby is offically full term. So not too much longer to go. My dr. doesn't think the baby will be born this week which is okay with me. It can take as long as it wants - but not more then 3 more weeks! Next week is Kaden & Jack's meet the teacher day and their first days of school so I really don't want to miss that. Everything is almost ready and my bags are packed so I think if I have another week or so I will have everything set to go.
I am hitting the really tired phase and I am not sleeping very well at night but I know it is only going to get worse with three little ones. Kaden has really started pointing out "born" (newborn) babies everywhere we go. I think the boys are ready to get on with life with their new little brother. I am ready to be able to participate more. It seems like lately I would rather have a quiet break then go out exploring with the boys.

On Star saved my Kids!!!

It is one of those things that was bound to happen sometime. I had the kids with me at my dr. appointment and we were getting ready to leave. I opened the doors loaded both boys into the suburban from the passenger side - remote started the car to get it started cooling-put my purse, keys, and some papers the dr. gave me down. Do you see where this is headed? Strapped Kaden into his carseat and shut the door to go around to the other side to strap Jack in. Try to open the door and it hits me. Yep - doors locked with my kids, keys, and cell phone inside. So my first idea is to get Jack to go to the front and push the buttons on the door. Normally one of his favorite things to do EXCEPT when mommy really needs him to. As a side note we have been practicing getting in the car with the boys. Yes, actual car seat drills to make it as easy as possible with the baby. We have been working on them getting right in their seat and waiting to be strapped in. And it has worked like a charm. Jack is in his seat waiting to be strapped in. So my next plan is to get Kaden to try to get out of his seat. Something he has never done. He can unstrap the chest clip but not the main buckle and being the carseat freak that I am the straps are adjusted correctly (read: tight) allowing no wiggle room. Now two very nice people have stopped to help. I tell them what happened and that I am trying to get my 1 year old to unlock the door. At that point I remember On Star. The lady said she also had on star and would go get her car and call them. Now it has been almost 5 minutes - the amount of time my car will run in the remote start mode while blowing cold air. And the car turns off. I am still calm but time is not in my favor. On star took forever but had my car unlocked in probably another 4-5 minutes. When I opened the doors it was warm in the car and Kaden was starting to sweat. The only time I almost lost it was when the on star lady, that was taking forever, asked how hot it was outside. My reply was very hot -hurry. For the record it was 91 degrees. I know on a day that hot in full sun my suburban would be well over 100 degrees inside in less then 15 minutes.

Did I have other options. Not really my dr. is about 20 minutes from Tim's office. To find and get a lock smith there and get the door opened would have taken way too long. I could have called the police. That would have been the only other option. Other then find a baseball bat myself. Basically On Star was probably by far the fastest option. Oh and at one point the guy that was helping me did get Jack to get out of his seat and get in the front. He pushed all kinds of buttons but not the unlock and his favorite thing to do was put quarters in the DVD player. That was frustrating to watch but what should I expect from a 1 year old. I will now be a life time subscriber to On Star. Oh, and we are working with Kaden so he will be able to get out of his seat in an emergency.

The Look

I finally caught Kaden's look of inner turmoil. This is the face he makes when he really really wants to do something and we have just told him he can't. I love it. You can just tell he is trying to decide whether he should still do what he wants or listen and follow directions.

1 step forward - 2 steps back

And I wonder how I can spend all day cleaning and working around the house and when Tim gets home it looks like I did absolutely nothing. This is what the boys were doing while I was cleaning the kitchen. They were playing really well together but the amount of work it caused me: 12 items extra laundry (their clothes & some towels) plus a lot of drying up water, plus to correct whatever they cleaned (as their punishment) and I had to wash the soap out of their hair and get them re- dressed. Ahhh just another day in the life of a Stay - at-home mom! But at least they got to use their imagination! I saw on the Today Show today Kids are being bombarded with educational toys and not getting to just play and be creative with everyday objects which is leading to adults who are not innovative. Well not my kids - this is going to make them into little Einsteins! Their explanation was they were making a little bath tub for their feet and then they decided to be window washers.

Of course I took pictures! Some day my children will be gone all day, my house will be spotless, and I will miss these days.

3 Hours of cooking for 14 dinners!!!!!!

This is something that was posted on the September 2008 Baby Center Birth Board. It looks like a really easy plan (& cheap) so I thought I would share, especially with the start of school. The disclaimer is I haven't tried any of these recipes so I don't know how good they are. So let me know if anyone tries this. Oh and I just pasted this over here so all the misspelled words were the original authors.

Here is the recipes/shopping list/directions on how to spend 3 hours cooking 14 dinners (2 weeks of meals)

Shopping List:

MEAT:
9-10 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
7 lbs hamburger
1 lb cooked ham

DAIRY:
2 pkgs 8 oz mozzarella
1 cont (8 oz) grated parmesan cheese
1 pint sour cream
2 tubes (12 oz each) buttermilk biscuits
1 pkg (12 oz) shredded sharp cheddar

FROZEN:
2 pkgs (16 oz) Asian style veggies
2 pkgs (16 oz) Italian style veggies
1 pkg (20 oz) peas
1 pkg (20 oz) mixed veggies
1 pkg (14 oz) frozen bell pepper strips
2 pkgs (10 oz) Broccoli florets
2 pkgs (16.9 oz) potato and cheddar pierogies

PACKAGED GOODS:
2 cans (10 ¾ oz) cream of chicken
4 pkgs chicken ramen
2 jars (16 oz) mild salsa
2 pkgs (1.25 oz) chili mix
2 cans (10 oz) corn with peppers (Mexican corn)
1 pkg (2.2 oz) beefy onion recipe soup mix
2 pkg (16 oz) penne pasta
2 jars (26 oz) garden veggy pasta sauce
2 jars (16 oz) alfredo sauce
2 jars (16 oz) cheddar cheese sauce- ragu
2 cans (15.5 oz) dark red kidney beans
2 cans (4.5 oz) sliced mushrooms

HAVE ON HAND:
Vegetable oil
Crushed red pepper
Paprika
Parmesan Cheese
Soy Sauce

STORAGE:
2- 1.5 quart freezer/baking foil pan
4- 2 quart freezer/baking foil pan
2- 10 cup freezer/baking foil pan
6- Gallon size freezer bag

TIPS ~ 1) I DIDN’T know why they said to thaw your frozen veggies, only to refreeze them. WELL…I found out that they don’t cook well if you do not thaw them before mixing them into recipe. hehehehehehe
2) For storage….I want to get a stock pile of aluminum pans, bought wrong sizes the first time (too big), this time I just stored the food in butter containers, defrost, then toss into a pyrex pan to bake. In stores the aluminum pans do not have quart sizes listed (not in my Kroger anyway), I would guesstimate that a little bigger than 8x8x2 would be good.
3) It gets messy~ next time I plan on cooking the meat all up on one day then mixing recipes the next day, I find myself waiting for the chicken to cook…..
4) 10 cups pasta= 1 box save the time of measuring and cook them in 2 separate pots, drain each pot, then dump into a bowl!

DIRECTIONS~
1) Bring 2 large pots of water to a boil. A) cook both boxes of penne- drain, set asideB) cook pierogi- drain, set aside
2) while pasta is cooking, in large skillet over medium-high heat brown beef in vegetable oil (I use no oil and cook in non-stick pan), in several batches, about 10-12 minutes per batch. 7 pounds yields about 14 cups. Set aside in fridge.
3) meanwhile, dice ham; reserve. Cut chicken into bite size pieces. In large skillet over high heat saute chicken in vegetable oil, in several batches, until lightly browned and no longer pink, 10-12 minutes per batch. (20 chicken breast yields 20 cups). Set aside in fridge.
4) Preheat oven to 375 for pot pies. Make and bake pot pies.
5) While pies are baking make Beef Chili and Beef & Vegetable Paprikash; cool completely before freezing.
6) Assemble Chicken Pierogies Alfredo, Italian Pasta Bake, and Cheesy Brococli Pasta; cover, label and freeze.
7) Make Asian Chicken.

100th POST

Hooray! I finnally made it to 100 posts! It took me 18 months. I know some of you easily post 100 times a year but I was a little slow to start. I think the boys and I will go out for ice cream later and play at the park to celebrate.

So what do I love about blogging? It keeps people connected and is a great way to share and find ideas. I especially love keeping up with my friends & their kids. Some of their kids I have never met but have gotten to "watch" them grow. I find inspiration from people I don't know in real life and may never meet. And last but not least I have really gotten into the blogs people create to share their advice and ideas (like bargain shopping, organizing, and activities for kids). One of the things coming back to my blog when I get a chance is my list of blogs I read. So I highly reccomend those of you out there that haven't started a blog to try it.

36 weeks

Well I have made it to the home stretch. I am definately not ready for this baby yet but I am getting closer - another couple weeks would be great! A lady in Wal-Mart stopped me and said (in a frantic tone) " OMG are you due today?" Like she might have to deliver the baby right there. I couldn't help it I said "Not until November". Okay so I lied. But you should have seen the look on her face! She might as well as just said you are huge. So here is a pic to show everyone how huge I am. It's not great it was taken at the end of a really long day.

Actually shopping has been really fun lately - people just can't help but comment. The same shopping trip to Wal-Mart - I actually was there without the boys (Thank you drop in play care).
A lady was shopping with her daughter who was probably 3 and was talking non- stop, whinning, etc. The lady looked at me and said (in a very frustrated tone) "Do you see what you are in for?" I laughed and said"I know this is my third - I have two boys at home." She walked off and avoided me the rest of the time. Thanks for the warning lady. But I already know what I am in for! At least mostly when it comes to the toddler/preschool years.

Kaden's Perspective

Kaden has definately noticed my changing figure and has had some comments.

We went to a restaurant and we had to squeeze into a parking spot so we couldn't open the doors very wide.

Kaden says (in a concerned tone): "Mommy can you get out with your little fat tummy?"

Kaden was taking a bubble bath. He put the bubbles on his stomach and said:

"Hey look I'm Mommy!"
And finally here is a picture he drew of Tim & I. Notice how huge I am compared to Tim! It is probably accurate.

Ramblings

First of all I am sure some of you are wondering why I haven't posted pics in a while. WEll... some are on our camera - really there isn't an excuse for those not being posted except we also have pics on both i phones. So in order to keep the pics that go together actually together (yes I am that picky) we have to download them to Tim's computer and then move them to mine. And we just haven't gotten to that yet. So hold your horses! There will be an overload of pics soon.

I took Kaden and Jack to get their feet measured yesterday ( a little before school ritual) to make sure last springs shoes still will fit this fall. Jack needs a size 8. It's a good thing I checked his current shoes are a size 7. Kaden could wear a 9 but will soon be a 10. So basically they are only one shoe size apart right now! So they each picked out a shoe which the store didn't have in either size - which seemed to be the theme for the day. So we came home without shoes. This is why they will probably end up with matching shoes. It is hard to find shoes I like, they like, and that has their size so when we do they each get a pair. Now I need to find shoe labels for the inside so we can keep them straight since they will be so close in size. The ped. told us when Kaden was born that premies have really small feet and they stay that way a looong time and will be the very last thing to catch up. I don't know if his feet just haven't caught up yet or if he just has small feet. I guess I have more shoe shopping to do!

Rain Rain and more Rain

I hate to complain about all the rain we have been getting as the high temperatures have been about 70. Which for August is just wonderful! With all the rainy days there have been many opportunites for parental greatness. You know I could be baking with the boys, painting, playing play dough, or playing endless board games. But I haven't taken any of these opportunities. All those wonderful educating opportunities are messy. I already have a ton of cleaning to do without adding to the mess. Now normally I would just suck it up and at least do one of those things a day but with the hugeness I am now just keeping up with the normal housework is about all I can manage. Plus with Jack's birthday party this weekend my to-do list is already pretty long. So what you may ask have we been doing. The boys have been watching movies and trashing the playroom. Today, we had a lot of fun. I took them to McDonald's for lunch - not because the food is so nutritious but because if we ate there they could play on the toys. So I fed them junk but they got exercise so I figured it kind of balanced out. Even better I got to sit by myself and check my email (thank you Tim for the i phone). This could become a weekly activity this winter!

Now on to school supply shopping - something else we did today. I couldn't find anything we needed. I know school starts here tomorrow so they were probably pretty picked over but Kaden needs really simple supplies. The problem is I couldn't find simple supplies.
Here is what he needed:

1 container Clorox wipes - CHECK
4 oz. Elmers Glue - CHECK
1 pkg. Elmers Glue sticks - CHECK
1 pkg. 8 count "big" crayons - There were reg. crayons, jumbo crayons, triangular crayons, and 16 count big crayons - but not one pkg. of what I needed.
1 pkg. 8 count Washable markers- There were bold
colors and bright colors but not classic colors.

Crayola has made everything too fancy and complicated. I couldn't find just the 8 standard colors in a package and I don't want my 4 year old to have to decide whether to use blue- green or puprle - blue when the directions are to color the sky blue. And yes I could have gotten Rose Art colors. After all they are cheaper but if you have ever seen the color they produce (watered down not true to life color EX: red looks pink) they aren't worth buying.

I couldn't even find all of Jack's supplies.

1 container Clorox wipes - Check

1 container baby wipes - Check

1 bottle of bubbles - WHAT - Where did the bubbles go? I guess we will have to look at Wal-Mart.

I guess it is a good think the boys don't start school until after Labor Day. That gives me time to track down my simple supplies.

Oh to be Kid-less again...

My parents decided to keep the kids this week. As soon as my mom suggested it I started packing their bags. Other then a night here or there I haven't been away from Kaden since he was born and I am not sure we have really left Jack at all.
It has been great. I have gotten a ton done around the house, gotten to sleep in and rest whenever I needed it. Tim and I have been out to eat, went to a movie (Mama Mia), & got to hang out with friends. I can't even remember what life was like before we had kids. With as much fun as we have had we really miss our kids and are excited for them to come home.

The first morning I woke up without the boys here I was truly lost in my own house. It was so quiet. I didn't know what to do without requests for breakfast, fights, or really any thing to do or anyone to take care of. It was nice to have a break becuase soon we will be going full force again with another one added to the mix.

Thank you to my mom & dad for keeping the kids. It sounds like they had so much fun.

Make Way for Baby!

Well, we are finally making our way home. In the last month the kids and I have only been home for 4 days and Tim only 2! We had a great vacation (more to come on that in the next post) but now it's time to prepare for our new baby. Nothing like waiting until the last minute - considering if this baby follows in Kaden's footsteps he will be born next week! AHHHHH! I really got nervous after reading Elizabeth's blog and her Pre - Baby to do list. She is having her 3rd this week. So I thought I would start my own to do list. Maybe it will hit me that we really are having another baby if I start getting things done.

1. Unpack the rest of the boxes.
2. Get out all baby gear to wash and repair if needed.
3. Clean the carpets in the Suburban and rearrange car seats and add infant seat.
4. Remove all the clothes from Kaden & Jack's closets that they have outgrown and see what they need for fall.
5. Have Brad take Kaden's 4 year old pics, and Jack's 2 year old pics and some belly pics for me.
6. Figure out what we still need and go to babies r us.
7. Decide on a stroller solution.
8. Pick a name for the baby or at least have a list.
9. Get Tim's car serviced.
10. Plan a birthday party for Jack.
11. Buy gifts from the baby for the boys and wrap them.
12. Take the boys to get a special gift for the baby.
13. Tour & register at the hospital.
14. Pick and call a ped.
15. Get a mani & pedi (or two)
16. Plan, prepare, and freeze at least 12 meals.
17. Start Christmas Shopping (Okay that might be wishful thinking. But wouldn't it be nice to have that done with only 2 kids.)
18. Make sure laundry room is clean and ready to handle the massive loads.
19. Reorganize the garage.
20. Decorate & Hang pictures.

This is just the begining. I am sure this list will get impossibly long unless nesting kicks in in overdrive!

I scream, You Scream

Summer doesn't get any better then a baby in their diaper eating ice cream!
Jack calls it Cream.

Sharing with Riley.

Some battles just aren't worth fighting

Here is what Kaden chose to wear to the park.
It was only 95 degrees when we went. But we told him he could if he took a t-shirt with him. We are trying to work on his decision making (per love & logic). This one kind of backfired or showed us a 4 year old doesn't have any logic. He never took off the sweatshirt or even took the hood off! The park is pretty shaded but still. There were some other parents who looked at us and him pretty funny. We had just bought the sweatshirt so maybe that was the motivation?
And he wonders why we don't let him make the big decisions (bed time, what & when to eat, etc.).

A little math equation

+
+

+
+
33 weeks pregnant
=
Insanity
It is supposed to equal vacation but I just don't think it adds up like that this year!
It will be a success if no one gets hurt and we don't have a mile high baby. Prayers for safety and that our baby stays in would be great.
